ABOUT POÈMES FABULEUX
The closure of antiquarian bookshop De Boekenbeurs marked the beginning of Poèmes Fabuleux. For more than forty years, shop owner Fred Duivenvoorde offered a space where visitors could wander among an extensive collection of books and other paper ephemera. With its closure, not only a shop was lost, but also a physical environment that encouraged unplanned and tactile forms of discovery.
This book brings together photographs made inside the shop with illustrations from the collection, creating unexpected encounters between space, image, text and material. Like the eclectic collection of the antiquarian bookshop itself, Poèmes Fabuleux invites readers to wander, make connections and discover meaning without a predetermined path.
The project has already received support from the Amarte Fonds and Stichting Jaap Harten Fonds. It has also been exhibited at the DongGang International Photo Festival in South Korea and the Biennale de la Photographie de Mulhouse in France. This month, it will be presented at Grenze Arsenali Fotografici in Verona, Italy.
